Dear IAHI Members:
While our industry continues its challenging climb back to profitability, there are a number of legislative initiatives that threaten to derail any progress we have made. From debilitating health care rules to legislation that would provide online travel agencies with a pricing advantage based on tax exemption, our battles on Capitol Hill are far from over.
I recognize budgets are very tough for all our members, but a strong voice and cohesive message before legislators is crucial. That is why I am asking you to generously support INN-PAC. Without representation in Washington, we become highly vulnerable to legislative pandering and ill-conceived policies.
Consider this:
Card check is only on hiatus. The issue will likely resurrect in the coming months or years.
Letting down our guard on this bill opens the door for its passage.
Immigration issues will come to the forefront as the White House looks for its next major initiative.
The online travel agencies have gained considerable power over the last few years and are now behind Federal legislation that will create a tax benefit for them — but not for you. The passage of this bill would create a distinctly uneven playing field.
These are only a sampling of the political issues that will dramatically impact our industry in the near future. Please make your commitment to INN-PAC today so that our voice will be heard and our industry protected from the outside forces that threaten our growth and viability.
Sincerely,
Eva Ferguson

Q&A:
CLICK HERE FOR RULES FOR INN-PAC CONTRIBUTIONS FOR THE FEC
Q. Should my check to INN-PAC be a personal or partnership check?
A. Federal law prohibits corporations from making political contributions; therefore, political contributions must come from individuals by personal or partnership checks. On partnership checks, the FEC requires the names of all partners.
Q. Why not give to candidates individually?
A. You can, but by contributing a larger aggregate amount in the name of the InterContinental Hotels Group system, we will create a greater impact. By presenting a unified front, the system gets more "bang for the buck."
Q. How much may I contribute to INN-PAC?
A. Federal law allows an individual to contribute a maximum of $5,000 in any calendar year to INN-PAC.
Q. If I give $5,000 to INN-PAC in one year, may I give more through other PACs or to the candidates directly?
A. Yes. You may give up to $5,000 to other PACs per year and up to $1,000 to an individual candidate per election. Your total contribution cannot exceed $25,000 per calendar year.
Q. Who does the INN-PAC committee receive input from before making its final decision on recipients of contributions?
A. We receive information and input from a number of sources, including:
- Franchisees from the candidates' respective districts and/or areas
- Individual contributors
- InterContinental Hotels Group and its Washington Counsel
- United States Chamber of Commerce
- American Hotel & Lodging Association
- National Restaurant Association
- Travel/Tourism Industry Score
- Travel Business Roundtable
- AAHOA
Q. I want to support the InterContinental Hotels Group system through INN-PAC. What should I do?
A. Complete the contribution form and return it with your personal or partnership check.
