In honor of Steve’s commitment to the IHG family of hotels and owners, his devotion to the “people taking care of people” who work in IHG branded hotels and offices, and his passion for building leaders; IHG and the IAHI present the Steve Porter Memorial Scholarship Program. This program was established to assist the children of IHG team members in IHG-branded hotels and offices who plan to pursue full-time study in college and vocational programs.
Hotels and Reservation Centers will receive hard copy posters via Fed Ex shortly to post in your employee common areas. English, French and Spanish versions of the poster and application are available on Merlin via the following link:
Eligibility
- Children (up to the age of 23) of regular full-time IHG and IAHI employees (based in U.S., Canada, Mexico, and South America) who have a minimum of one year employment with the company as of the application deadline date, April 15, 2010.
- High school seniors or graduates who plan to enroll or students who are already enrolled in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two- or four- year college, university, or vocational-technical school.
Children of temporary, part-time, on-call, and/or seasonal employees are not eligible.
Awards
An external resource – Scholarship America – will screen applicants to ensure total objectivity of award determination. Selection criteria will include past academic performance, leadership, and participation in extracurricular school activities, participating in community service activities and work experience as well as career and educational aspirations and goal.
Up to 18 awards in the amount of $5,000 each will be granted (limit one per hotel). Awards may be taxable income based on levels of participation and adherence to applicable laws at the time of award. Awards are for undergraduate study only.
Application
Interested students must complete the application and mail it along with a current complete transcript of grades to Scholarship America postmarked no later than April 15, 2010.
