Message from the INN-PAC Chairmen
Dear Colleagues,
As an election year, 2008 will be a critical time for us and our businesses.
Political activism on our part is critical − on a local and national
level − to positively influence those who support our industry
and educate others that are unaware of how these issues impact our businesses. Did
you know?
- The US makes little effort to advertise itself as a travel destination,
resulting in a significant loss of the international in-bound travel
market.
- Immigration reform and homeland security issues are severely impacting
our business.
- The Labor Unions proposed the removal of the secret ballot during
organization drives, and we narrowly defeated the legislation.
- Congress did not raise the Cap on H2-B visas which impacts our ability
to bring more seasonal labor into the US.
Members of the IAHI and IHG leadership teams continue to make a difference
on these issues on Capitol Hill by staying involved − on behalf
of the hospitality industry:
- Steve Porter, IHG President – the Americas, Past Chairman of
the AH&LA Government Affairs Committee, Chairman of the Discover
America Partnership
- Tom Corcoran, IAHI Chairman-Elect and Chairman of AH&LA
- Eva Ferguson, IAHI President and Member of the AH&LA Government
Affairs Committee
- Bob Alter, IAHI Past Chairman and Chairman of the AH&LA Government
Affairs Committee
