Annual 2008 HOST Study from the IAHI and
Smith Travel Research
Dear IAHI Members in the US,
Your Owners’ Association continues to partner
with Smith Travel Research (STR) to support the 2008
Hotel Operating Statistics Study (HOST) outlined
below. Your participation in 2008 is essential due
to the uncertain economic environment we are currently
experiencing.
The HOST Study is produced by STR with the help
of individual participants like you. The data that
you provide is used to create an in-depth review
of hotel financial information – exclusive
within the industry. With the support of most major
hotel chains and management companies, last year’s
data collection effort received a response from approximately
5,400 properties. With your participation, the accuracy
and depth of the HOST Study will continue to improve
even more.
The HOST Study is an annual 40-page report that
provides a recap of US lodging industry profitability.
The common-size income statement allows you to compare
your revenues and expenses - department by department
- to industry averages. A natural compliment to the
STAR Report (which analyzes operating revenues),
the HOST Study allows a property to benchmark its
expenses. Is everyone else spending 6% of their revenues
on property maintenance? Are your fixed costs as
bad as they seem? The HOST study helps you see where
you need to tighten up operations, and where you're
outperforming the industry.
In return for your participation, you will receive
a free HOST Report via e-mail, which compares your
2007 financial results to other participating hotels
in your market. All companies with three or more
US hotels with 95% of their US hotels participating
in HOST will receive the entire HOST Study – complimentary.
To participate, simply complete the survey
form, using your 2007 income statement. Be
assured, your financial data will be held in strict
