General Manager Academy

In 2005 , the IAHI and InterContinental Hotels Group introduced a significant new benefit entitled General Manager Academy. It built on the success of the Leadership Institute, a similar program created for IAHI members. The focus of the GM Academy is to provide strong leadership skills and general management principles to the individuals that attend this elite offering.

The establishment of the GM Academy is a collaborative effort between the IAHI, InterContinental Hotels Group, and the Purdue Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management and Krannert School of Management Executive Education Programs. The Purdue Hospitality and Tourism Management Program is ranked one of the top hospitality programs in the U.S.

The curriculum, designed around the concept of creating and leading winning teams and organizations, will help selected candidates do the following:

  • Focus on leadership skills, knowledge and behaviors
  • Increase business and organization competence
  • Raise the bar in performance at the hotel level

Two sessions at the Purdue campus in West Lafayette, Indiana were offered in 2006.
